Memorial Day + Giveaway

Update: This giveaway is now CLOSED.
Check back soon for a winner.

*************************************
If you're visiting my blog for the first time, welcome!

It's Friday and we are starting the Memorial Day weekend!  I think it's pretty cool to have a holiday to show remembrance for veterans, police, firefighters, and any loved one.

I feel very excited to be able to celebrate the weekend with hosting my very first giveaway!

Julie at The Intrepid Thread shop is sponsoring my giveaway. You can visit her shop in California, or visit her online shop at www.intrepidthread.com

I have purchased fabric from her before, and my experience was wonderful. Julie has a great eye for color, puts together colorful custom bundles, and is easy to work with if you need a custom bundle or special idea. She carries many different fabrics from many designers, with something for everyone.

My favorite collections that the shop carries is Cuzco by Moda, and Pieces of Hope by Riley Blake for Autism Awareness (if you're stopping by for the first time, I'm not too shy about sharing that my son has Autism).

The Intrepid Thread is offering a fat quarter bundle of Field Day by Josephine Kimberling. It's a sweet collection with florals and butterflies, perfect to start a sunny summer quilt!

To be entered to win, please leave a comment below and answer my question: have you made a memorial or celebration quilt for yourself or another person? (For example, is it a Quilt of Valor, a special family member, a child that has passed?) Leave a comment by noon, Wednesday May 29, Mountain Daylight Time. I will choose a random winner during the evening of the 29th.

Please leave your email if you are a no-reply blogger.
 Thanks for stopping by!

Rachell

  1. I have not made a memorial or celebration quilt. I just seem to make quilts and stash them in my cabinets for no reason. It's the joy of making them I guess.

  2. I haven't made a memorial or celebration quilt yet. However, I made pillows for my dad's 60th birthday, so I think it's in a way a celebration project, too. I find it rather difficult to come up with a design and have time to sew it on occasion, it's difficult enough to get my quilted gifts ready on time.
    Thanks for the chance!

  14. Several years ago, I made quilts for an organization called Operation Homefront Quilts. They were given to the family members of soldiers who lost their lives in the gulf war. It was a sad project, but there were many family members who wrote back and expressed their appreciation that someone had recognized their loss. Lovely bundle. Thanks for the giveaway.

  16. I haven't made a memorial quilt, but I did make a special work apron (I work at a major fabric store chain) featuring an applique banner that says "we remember" and poppies made from yo-yos to give my customers a gentle reminder that Memorial Day is more than sales and barbecues. My mom is currently working on a Quilt of Valor, and it should be a stunner! Congrats on your first sponsored giveaway!

  20. I've never made a memorial quilt. I'm currently working on making one quilt for each of my closer family members--which is turning out to be a big project!

  21. I have never made a memorial but I did do a celebration quilt when my first grandson was born. I never did get it backed and it's still sitting in my sewing cupboard..and he's 12 yrs old!! I have also made quilt blocks that I learned to do in a quilting class but haven't even put them together into the quilt that I had hoped to do. I had a blast doing the different blocks and learning techniques of paper-piecing. Just wish I had the creativity to try to put all the blocks together with the right fabric for front and back. Maybe if I win this fat quarter bundle, it will give me inspiration to finish my other projects~

  25. I once made a couple baby quilts from a collection of baby clothes. The mother of a girl who was having her first baby asked me to use her daughter's baby clothes to make two baby quilts. She kept one and gave the other to her daughter. And both would be used for the new baby. Sweet project.

  49. Yes, i used to work for the state police as a dispatcher and one of the state troopers had a collection of state police badges from all 50 states. His father was a retired state trooper and he wanted me to figure a way to use the badges to make a quilt for his dad. I made photo copies of the badges and put them on transfer paper then ironed them on fabric squares. His dad was in the viet nam war and the trooper had just gotten back from iraq. So i used both sets of their dog tags and medals they earned and photo copied them and made them into blocks also. Thecquilt was a gift toboth of them for fighting to our country safe both abroad and at home. babscorbitt@gmail.com
