Elephant Parade top

Hi all !

I finally finished my Elephant Parade quilt top! Can I get a WOO-HOO !!!!

A huge shout-out to Kelly, who saw my plea for more blue background on Pat Sloan's Facebook page, and sent me some that she had bought!

It's the top and two side sashings of the blue background, that was all I had to finish, but I was completely out of it. And after searching and searching, it turns out Joann had discontinued the color. Kelly had a different brand, but it was named the same color name, and sent it to me. You can't even tell the difference!  Thanks so much to Kelly!

Tonight I did a lot of pressing fabric for quilt backings, measuring and marking centers.

I got pieces cut for piecing together two different backings. That's a lot of fabric!
Backing for Elephant Parade.
Backing for Sunnyside ModaLove.

I am all about getting prep work finished at once. That way, when I'm ready to start, I just pick up the pieces and put them together. In this case, it's quilt top + backing = layer and baste a quilt together. (All right, so I admit that I still need to cut batting too.)

Update:
I finished the back of Elephant Parade too! I found cute elephant flannel at Joann and Walmart.

Cute cute cute !

Woo! Elephant Parade

The top is nearly finished for my version of Sew Fresh Quilts' #ElephantParadeQAL !

I literally ran out of blue background, so I will need to purchase just a bit more to finish the sashing/border. Or maybe a cute elephant print for the border and backing. Guess I will need to go hunting!

I'm off the HMQS (Home Machine Quilting Show) in the morning with my best friend! We make it bestie bonding time and admire the art. She just laughs when I go crazy over fabric and machines and cool new tools.

More elephant parade

I just realized that I totally forgot to post, when I finished the turtle and frog from the Elephant Parade. Oops!

I just need to embroider the pupils in the eyes. They won't look like zombies, then.

And one more mommy elephant, that I cut and pieced last night.

#elephantparadeqal

I'm not likely to get anything done today or tonight, because it's Grandparent Day in kindergarten and there's literally no one else but me, to be there for my son. (So I guess the baby won't be getting a nap.) And then I'm going to work tonight, during usual sewing time.

Elephant Parade progress

I'm participating in Sew Fresh Quilts's Elephant Parade QAL. I'm making some good progress.
#elephantparadeqal

It's finally looking like a little parade!

Since each row of the quilt has a mommy/daddy and 3 baby elephants, I thought they would represent me and my 3 boys. So I will use scraps of blue, green, and gold that I used in their baby quilts, for the ears. Hubby gets red ears, and I'll use purple for me.

Once you cut all the little pieces, these elephants go together quickly.
I cut pieces for the other four large elephants, and also the frog and turtle. I ran out of the blue background after the elephants.
